Call of Duty: World at War

Treyarch have there hands on the Call of Duty franchise again. The fifth instalment comes with the already built up fame of a highly succesfull series.

Focused on the US battles against the Japanese in the Pacific and the Soviets moving through Europe into Germany. The all star cast, including Kiefer Sutherland and Gary Oldman, offer new missions following real battles, the Makin Island raid, the Battle of Peleliu, and the Battle of Berlin, using real World War 2 era weapons, Call of Duty: World at War is very authentic first person action.

The action is certainly intense and bloody. Most of the Pacific battles are fought for islands over hills and in trenches. One level is fought from the skies controlling many guns and rescuing survivors form a sinking Naval Fleet.

The Russian battles are fought raiding streets and clearing buildings of the German resistance. The sniper rifle is a favourite on the Russian side. One battle being fought in a tank.

There’s nothing new to fans of the franchise. The gameplay is the same as usual with the improved battles and graphics being the major difference.

Call Of Duty: World At War

Multiplayer is similar to Call of Duty 4. Co-operative gameplay is available. This allows two players on a split screen or 4 players online to battle through the missions, a first for the series.

Call Of Duty: World At War

Fans are starting to realise that the Second World War can only offer a certain amount of battles before we start to see repeats. Alot of people like the classic weapons, but you may find that you've done this all before; it’s just the targets that have changed. As usual, the actual missions can be completed in a single sitting; it's the Multiplayer that keeps you coming back. After so long, fans will start to get bored, however, considering there are many other wars to base games on Developers should take note. Modern Warfare looked like a new era for the Call of Duty franchise, while this isn't a backwards step in gaming; it is a backward step in time to a place that has almost been fought to death by gamers for quite a while now. Well worth the money, especially if you cant get enough of Call of Duty Multiplayer.
