A lot of people have asked about proxies, and anonymous surfing on the web. First, understanding exactly what a proxy server is. When you visit a website, information like you IP is gathered so that the server that contains the website knows who to send the information to. As they talk back and forth, they relay the IP's back and forth, uploading and downloading data. A proxy server is a server that gathers information for a client on another server. You would connect to a proxy server, request a service, like a website, that is located on a different server, then it's sent back to you via the proxy server. Basically, you are asking someone else to get the information for you, and it is then relayed back to you.
So why would you want to do this? Well, anonymity is one thing, you may have seen websites or videos that are blocked to people in your country (which is quite rude actually). Or you may be banned from a particular service (which is probably for a reason).
There are three ways to do this. First, you can use an online service, these are often free and easy. You simply go to a website, then surf on from there. The problem is, you need to go back here every time you want to surf anomalously, you may also be bombarded with adverts from the proxy service.
The best way is to find a list of proxy servers online (a simple google search away), then configure you web client to use that proxy server. Here's how.
