How To Add Command Prompt to the Right Click Options

E-mail Print PDF

Instead of the normal lengthy way of clicking Start, then run, typing 'cmd' to open the command prompt, then having to type the change directory command to navigate to the correct folder, a simple hack can instantly do the same thing.

XP:
Open My Computer and click Tools then Options from the top menu.
Click on the File Types tab and select Folder from the pull down menu then press the Advanced button.
Select New, then give it a nice name like: Open in Command Prompt and make the application:

c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe /K cd "%1

Press OK on the open windows and you'll now have the added option to open that folder in Command Prompt.

Vista:
In Vista this option is already available! Just select the folder, hold the Shift button and right click the mouse. You can now see the Open Command Window Here option.
